Alumni Stories

Stephanie

Stephanie started at Atlantis Academy Miami’s L.I.F.E. (Living Independently with Fundamental Experiences) Program in 2018 and has participated in several health care-related volunteer experiences. She has also worked in various positions with our community partners, including Doctors Hospital, West Kendall Baptist Hospital and Baptist Hospital Main Campus. Stephanie is currently a paid employee at the University of Miami’s Chartwells Dining Services, where she was recently profiled by the university’s news site.

Stephanie’s passions include dancing, nail art and helping her mother around the house. Stephanie was cast in the title role of Cinderella in our production of “Cinderella” through our Pages 2 Stages program. Stephanie is always eager and willing to assist her peers and teachers when needed.

Stephanie also gives back to her community by joining her fellow L.I.F.E. students in monthly service projects.

Ana

Ana started at Atlantis Academy Miami’s L.I.F.E. (Living Independently with Fundamental Experiences) program in 2016. Since then, Ana has participated in multiple volunteer and training opportunities, including working as a student intern at Autism Speaks, Zoo Miami, Miami Cancer Institute, West Kendall Baptist Hospital, Doctors Hospital and Empower Farms. Ana recently earned a paid internship position as a theater performer at the Miami Children’s Museum.

Ana is passionate about theater. She was recently cast in the leading role of several plays with the local Area Stage Company and Theatre Conservatory, including Fiona in “Shrek Jr.”, Anna in “Frozen”, Ariel in “The Little Mermaid” and Tinkerbell in “Peter Pan”. Ana also attends our weekly theater group, Pages 2 Stages, where she was chosen for the role of the evil stepsister Drizella in the Winter 2019 production of “Cinderella.”

Ana currently holds a certificate from the American Red Cross for their Babysitting Basics Program, and she completed The University of Miami Mailman Center for Child Development Self-Advocacy & Leadership Training program. As a way of giving back to our community, Ana and her peers at the L.I.F.E. program participate in monthly voluntarism projects like coastal clean-ups and feeding the homeless.

Jorge

Jorge enrolled in Atlantis Academy Miami’s L.I.F.E. (Living Independently with Fundamental Experiences) Program in 2015 and has since graduated. While enrolled, Jorge gained valuable work and volunteer experience through opportunities with our community partners, including West Kendall Baptist Hospital, Baptist Hospital Main Campus and the University of Miami’s Chartwells Dining Services.

While a L.I.F.E. student, Jorge completed The University of Miami Mailman Center for Child Development Self-Advocacy & Leadership Training. Through the program he learned important decision-making and problem-solving skills, participated in community involvement and learned how to advocate for himself and others in the community. Jorge also holds a certificate in food handling safety and has been happily employed at Panda Express for over a year.
